Lawn Care Projects

Lawn Care And Maintenance

I love my lawn, in fact I consider it the pride of my property. I have a 3/4th acre lawn that with patience and dedication has caught the attention of my neighbors. Wouldn’t you want a lawn that attracts the attention of onlookers?

Fact is, mowing your lawn isn’t enough. You may have the best lawn mower in town, but it amounts to nothing if you cannot landscape it, aerate it or even maintain it. I see so many people today hiring gardeners, landscaping experts just to keep their lawn healthy. Why is it so difficult to give a couple of hours at the weekend to get your lawn back in shape? For me, it is relaxing to work in the lawn, soak up the spring summer sun and an excellent way to stay fit. Even if you aren’t motivated by the same set of factors, you should still consider a few lawn improvement projects. But before that know what you ought to do.

Lawn Care and Improvement- Do’s and Don’t’s

Understand Your Natural Factors

A lawn is only as good as the grass types it has, the climate you live in and the soil type. Understanding these factors goes a long way in landscaping and planning for a lush lawn. You don’t want to have a mismatch of soil type with climate and grass varieties.

Keep Lawn Care Products Handy

While the lawn mower will be the most widely used of all lawn care products, make sure that you store pesticides, fertilizers, aeration tools, seeds, sod or whatever you use in your shed. The secret to lawn maintenance is to compensate for any changes in the lawn ecosystem immediately.

Try Going Organic

While fertilizers such as Nitrates and Phosphorous promote grass growth and leave a greener patch, they also rob the soil of its natural content, poison earthworms, runoff into the gutters and drains. My advice is to go organic and protect your lawn, house and the environment all at once.

Dress Lightly

I have seen so many times, folks going out to their lawn dressed in a casual attire thinking the mower isn’t going to give them any fight. By the time their lawn’s mowed over, they are left drenched in sweat. Wear something light and save yourself the embarrassing image.

Use Extras For The Lawn

A lawn is more than just grass, it is about the gateway to your property or your home. Make sure to decorate it with flower beds, stone walkways and whatever you think fits the scene.

Seed Intermittently

The biggest secret to a lush green growth is to seed regularly. As you mow more, remove weed, your lawn will tend to thin down. The best way to keep up appearances is to seed randomly every time you mow. Just don’t over do it.
