Designed for extra-large yards and lawns, the kind that can’t be mowed with a conventional walk-behind mower, Husqvarna YTH23V48-CA is an easy to operate and maintain riding lawn mower. It features easy access foot pedals and even sports cruise control. Furthermore, the sleek unit has a well rounded steel deck with deck wash outlet and grease fittings that are conveniently located at waist height. This lawn mower is motored by a powerful and efficient 23 hp engine with hydrostatic transmission for smooth and unhindered movement.

The YTH23V48-CA is equipped with a 48-inch triple blade assembly, making it easy to cut stretches of 4’ width. The blade assembly also features six cutting height adjustments, with a maximum height of 4 inches and a minimum of 1.5 inches. Additionally, the ride-on mower is fitted with extra wide turf tires – 15” for the rear and 20” for the front with a 16-inch turning radius, making it easily maneuverable. Cut grass is discharged efficiently, thanks to the unique Air Induction technology of Husqvarna that allows air to be drawn from the top and bottom of the deck simultaneously.

Our Take:

When we first got the Husqvarna YTH23V48-CA and unpacked the spanking new machine with gleaming steel and plastic parts still fresh with the new smell, there were mixed reactions from the team. While I was of the opinion, it looked petite and was perfect for folks who don’t want a gas guzzling monster and yet wish for a ride-on mower’s efficiency, Malcom was of the idea that the size of the YTH23V48-CA meant it would spend more time out in the lawn.

The first thing that struck me while at the controls was the amazingly smooth purring of the engine, and lack of any resistance to the triple-blades that went about cutting up an overgrown lawn effortlessly. (In order to truly test out a riding mower, it needs dense and high grass cover, so we left our lawn to its own devices for weeks!) Given the 16-inch turning radius, maneuvering the mower around our spacious lawn was quite easy. The almost six-inch high grass did not pose any problem as the machine was capable of cutting at 4 inches, and a minimum of 1.5, allowing enough for Malcom and the team to take turns at mowing the lawn.

We were genuinely pleased with the performance and ergonomics of the Husqvarna YTH23V48-CA, which comes with a 2-year warranty – not that the machine gave any trouble, in spite of regular use for the past three months. The ergonomically designed steering wheel, and the easy mounting and dismounting (thanks to the unique step-through design) made it quite easy and safe even for my 9-year old son to have a go at mowing a small patch effortlessly. Besides, the thoughtfully added cup holder ensured that a cool drink was always at hand, doing away with the need to switch off the machine and dismount for refreshments. In fact, carrying your favorite coolade in the cup holder gives a pretty decent idea of the mower’s balance and handling. With four anti-scalp deck wheels, a noseroller and hydrostatic transmission, powering through the straights, banking for steep turns and overcoming steep hills is a breeze! Overall, the machine is worth the price and is certainly something handy to have around the house provided you have a large enough lawn.

If I was to point out a few negatives with this beast, it would be the noise factor. Due to the lack of sheathing on the engine compartment, it generates raw engine piston noise, which can take some getting used to. Thankfully, the motor is more than efficient so that kind of makes up for all the ruckus it otherwise makes. As for first time usage, you don’t have to assemble anything, it comes completely assembled and you only have to fill the gas tank, pull out the user manual and start mowing your lawn.
